Tryst Review | A Calming Cocktail Escape In Mayfair

AN EXCITINGLY INNOVATIVE DRINKS MENU I’D CERTAINLY RECOMMEND TO PEOPLE LOOKING TO TRY SOMETHING NEW

Tucked into Hannover Street, Tryst, Mayfair’s newest cocktail bar, is a calming escape from the madness of Oxford Circus.

Tryst’s sultry lighting combined with close-together booths make the ambience and atmosphere fitting of the bar’s name.

I’m sure it will become a wildly popular date night spot in no time, especially given that it is under one of London’s most exciting new restaurants.

Tryst is the bar connected to the new London branch of Trèsind, an Indian restaurant already popular in Dubai and Mumbai. While I was initially sceptical about London needing another Indian restaurant, the bites passed around the bar were remarkable.

This is likely down to Trèsind being helmed by Himanshu Saini, the first chef to win three Michelin stars for Indian food. I seriously cannot stop thinking about several of the morsels I tried, and I might have to go back for the food alone.

The only issue I had with food being passed around the bar was that the music was just loud enough to not be able to hear what they were. The silver lining of that, is that I can truly recommend everything.

The point of a bar, though, is the drink menu, and Tryst is capable of some incredible elixirs. The drinks on offer at the press event were all mixed with a tequila base. My personal favourite was the Salcette, which is Tryst’s take on a spicy margarita.

It was the perfect blend of sweet and spicy, made with guava, green chilli, and peppercorn. These three ingredients listed together seem like they would overwhelm the palate, but I found this drink to be delightfully refreshing and dangerously drinkable.

All of the other drinks on offer were also delicious, inventive, and exciting — a special nod to the assam tea version of a negroni which I believe was only available on press night, but I’m sure can be mixed if you ask very nicely. The men working behind the bar were incredibly friendly and engaged in what kind of drink I enjoyed and what they could concoct with the wall of liquors behind them.

One note for the bar owners is they should probably work on their SEO. I had misplaced my invitation to this event, so I Googled ‘Tryst London’ to find the address, only for the first three results to be for an escort service… Hopefully all the press around this opening will push the cocktail bar to the top of the search list!

There are plenty of cocktail bars in Mayfair, but I found the drinks menu at Tryst to be excitingly innovative, and I’d certainly recommend it to people who are looking to taste something new.
