Clapham’s new bar, Mimosa, was buzzing on launch night, with drinks flowing, spirits high, and, to top it all off, a rooftop bar. What’s not to like? The energy hits you the moment you walk in. The dark, swanky interior, with a sleek bar stretching across one wall, immediately draws you in. With an extensive selection of wines, beers and cocktails on offer, there’s something for everyone.

Mimosa‘s layout is particularly unique, with its split-level spaces offering a variety of settings. Guests can choose from outdoor seating at the front, booths and tables in the main bar area, or venture into one of the adjoining rooms. Downstairs, you’ll find an intimate space with plush velvet sofas and soft golden lighting, creating a cosy atmosphere perfect for quieter conversations. Upstairs, a glass-fronted balcony overlooks the main room below, adding another dimension to the venue. The standout feature, however, is undoubtedly the rooftop bar. Furnished with modern seating and surrounded by lush planting, it creates the feeling of being tucked away from the bustle of Clapham High Street. I did wonder whether traffic noise would reach the roof terrace, but the lively atmosphere and music drifting up from downstairs made any outside noise far less noticeable than I had expected.

THE HEATWAVE WORTH SWEATING FOR

As a cocktail lover who enjoys a bit of spice, a margarita was always going to be my first choice. I opted for Mimosa‘s signature version, Heatwave, a blend of tequila, pink spicy honey, Cointreau and lime, complemented by grapefruit lemongrass. It delivered the perfect level of heat and quickly became my go to order whenever I returned to the bar. My friend was a little more adventurous, sampling both classic cocktails and one of Mimosa‘s bespoke creations, Lucy. This cocktail certainly packed a punch. Made with tequila, grapefruit, green grape lemongrass, green tea and mezcal, it’s one for those who enjoy a stronger drink. We personally found it a little overpowering, although that comes down entirely to personal preference. Cocktails are priced at around £12, which is fairly standard for London. Thankfully, they feel worth the price, with thoughtful garnishes and presentation adding to the experience, whether that’s a chili and chili salt rim or fresh fruit accompaniments.

Mimosa is one of those venues that feels destined to be busy. Its prime location on Clapham High Street certainly helps, but it’s the atmosphere and quality cocktails that will keep people coming back. Whether you’re looking for pre-drinks before a big night out, an intimate date spot, or somewhere to celebrate a birthday with drinks and nibbles, Mimosa strikes a great balance between fun and romance. Having celebrated my own birthday just last week, I couldn’t help thinking how perfect Mimosa would have been for the occasion. It may have opened a little too late for that, but it will definitely be top of my list when recommending birthday venues to friends.
