The Hideaway And Sloane Place Restaurant Review
Situated just off Sloane Square, Sloane Place is a boutique hotel and café bar. One of Chelsea’s hidden gems, Sloane Place offers casual dining and a contemporary British-Asian menus from breakfast till late. In celebration of the festive season Sloane Place have released a Christmas themed menu, running until 23 December. I was invited down to try out the menu and have a cocktail at The Hideaway.
The Hideaway is a modern speakeasy hidden underground at Sloane Place. Every Thursday they showcase live music and have DJ sets every Friday and Saturday. We started the evening at The Hideaway and tried out some of their signature cocktails. The Sake Mojito: Akashi-tai, lemon juice, gum syrup, apple juice, mint, and soda, was an interesting twist on the classic mojito. The punchy flavour of the sake, against the sharpness of the mint and lemon, made for a delicious taste.
Following drinks and nibbles we made our way upstairs to Sloane Place restaurant to check out the festive menu. My friend Louis chose to do the three-course festive menu, choosing a starter, main, and dessert. You also have the option to choose just two courses for £34.50, whereas the three courses’ costs £39.50. I decided to select some dishes from the All-Day Dining menu so we could try out both.
Louis started with Oven-baked Sweet Potato & Cerney Ash Salad with pumpkin seeds, rucola & honey soy dressing. The pumpkin gave the dish a vibrant look and was a sweet contrast again the sharp cheese flavours. It was beautifully displayed with all the elements cubed and topped with dainty flowers. I opted to skip getting a starter as my main dish sounded like it would be quite a filling choice.
For my main I chose Seafood and Basil Tagliatelle with native lobster, Devon crab, tiger prawns and squid. It was so delicious; I could happily rave about how tasty it was for days on end! There was a hearty amount of seafood included and each component brought something to the dish. The sauce brought all the combined flavours together, but I forgot to check what the actual flavour was.
From the festive menu Louis chose the Slow Roasted Confit Duck with braised red cabbage, brussel sprout leaves & cranberry jus. The meat was incredibly moist and just fell off the bone beautifully. Finally, we shared a Flourless Warm Chocolate Brownie with tonka bean ice cream & popcorn from the Festive Menu. It was quite a dense dessert, and I did miss the fluffiness that flour brings to a brownie.
I would definitely recommend The Hideaway and Sloane Place for cocktails, dinner with friends or even a date. The staff in the restaurant were really friendly, attentive, and looked after all the customers well. There is a tranquil atmosphere to the restaurant, whilst The Hideaway has a chic, cool vibe. Definitely try out the Seafood Tagliatelle if you stop by for a visit.
