Soho Theatre is London’s most vibrant producer of new theatre, comedy, and cabaret. And recently they were host to Paul F Taylor and his stand-up show Head In The Clouds. From the moment he steps onto the stage he grabs the audience’s attention. With what you ask? Well, an opening mime performance of all things. Initially confused this section teased unexpected twists to come and ended up tying in seamlessly with later parts of the show.

One of the standout aspects of Taylor’s performance is his effortless interactions with the audience. From comparing the seating arrangement to a game of battleships to bringing an audience member on stage for a skit. Remember that opening mime act, well our unsuspecting audience member gets to participate in the sport themselves. All leading on from a joke about mimes never cleaning up after themselves and how the rest must be constantly falling over it.

EMBRACE DISTRACTION AND FIND HUMOUR IN THE CHAOS OF LIFE

Delving into his ADHD diagnosis, Paul F Taylor skilfully weaves his experiences into the fabric of the show. Through quick witted one-liners and a song cut short to mimic the scattered nature of ADHD thoughts. You not only get a night of laughter but an insight into the world of life with ADHD. With his quick wit, he hilariously compares himself to Pablo Escobar or Jimmy Carr in disguise. Punctuating some quips with the signature Jimmy Carr ha ha laugh.

A memorable segment involves Taylor opening a box of balloons, each marked with difference references. Each sparking bizarre and humorous musings from questioning the uniformity of door sizes. If the furniture store had the same size door as all front doors no one would have to worry about ordering the wrong size. To pondering the wisdom of proposing on a hot air balloon. Who thinks this is a good choice of transport when the only person in charge is the wind.

Head In The Clouds is more than just a comedy show, it’s a reminder to find humour in the chaos of life. Paul F Taylor explores how to embrace distraction and his observations are both sharp and funny.
