Are you looking for an out of this world dining experience in London? Then look no further than The Grand Expedition: The Incredible Edible Journey at Film Shed Dalston. A remarkable fusion of gastronomy, live animation, acrobatics, and immersive set design that pushes the boundaries of dining experiences. From the moment you step into this whimsical dreamscape, you’re transported to the clouds and above. Tantalising your senses without needing to leave the comfort of your table.
The set design of The Grand Expedition is nothing short of masterful. Every detail meticulously crafted to take you on a journey across the globe. Picture this: you’re seated at tables designed like hot air balloons ready to see off on an adventure. If you are small group, you will be paired up with other adventurers. But this just adds to the experience as you swap stories and share laughs throughout the evening. Or at least that’s what we did with the two lovely women we were sat with.
AN ADVENTURE YOU WON’T SOON FORGET
The gifted actors guide guests through a creative and interactive performance. Despite minimal verbal cues, they effortlessly conveyed the narrative and engaged guests in various activities that add to the spectacle. From impromptu dance parties to unexpected role-play, every moment is infused with laughter and awe. The actors are seriously talented, and I was also impressed by how quickly they did their costume changes between scenes.
Facilitated by costume changes and immersive visual effects, the experience takes you to different destinations around the globe. Surrounding screens create the illusion of soaring through the air in your hot air balloon. Each destination brings forth a new set of culinary delights, curated to reflect the culture and flavours of the region. Without spoiling the surprise, the dishes are beautifully presented, and they accommodate various dietary requirements with ease. And let me tell you, I would be very surprised if you left feeling hungry.
