The Athenian Special The Beast Wrap Review

The Athenian is a small street food venture that was opened in 2014 by Athens born Tim Vasilakis. Since opening they have expanded to eight locations with an additional ten delivery only kitchens. The Athenian’s award-winning menu provides a new way to enjoy Greek food with their range of signature souvlaki and gyros. The latest addition to The Athenian menu is The Beast, a wrap filled with gyros, fries and halloumi.

THE BEAST WRAP FROM THE ATHENIAN

The Beast comes in three different flavours: chicken, pork and vegan seitan. Once you have selected your choice or meat, or vegan alternative, you can then choose your sauce. The flavour options are Athenian Sauce, Tzatziki, Spicy Feta, Smoked Aubergine or you have the option to stick with plain. Whilst you can order The Beast in wrap form, there is also the option to order as a box meal. You can also customise The Beast to remove the onions, tomatoes, lettuce or fries.

I chose The Beast Chicken Gyros Wrap with no sauce and removed the onions, tomatoes and lettuce as I’m not a fan. My housemate ordered The Beast Chicken Gyros Wrap without any amendments and selected Tzatziki as her sauce of choice. We decided to add some sides to our order and chose Halloumi fries because you can never have too many. My housemate also ordered some olives but wants to try the tomato croquettes the next time we order.

THE ATHENIAN TASTE TEST

We ordered via the Deliveroo app from the Boxpark venue in Shoreditch. Unfortunately, the driver took his sweet time delivering our order, so it was cold on arrival. This is through no fault of the restaurant and thankfully we were able to reheat The Beast in the microwave. Whilst I can’t say that it was the same texture once reheated, I can confirm it was still a tasty dish. Next time I think I’ll go to one of the restaurants to experience more of their offerings.

All meat at The Athenian is marinated in Greek herbs and it’s a lovely mix of flavours. With the addition of the oregano fries and the halloumi fries The Beast wrap is absolutely bursting with flavour. We soon realised that we did not need to order any sides as there was so much going on in the wrap. It was a full-on meal and will most definitely fill you up! But like I said you can never have too much halloumi.
