Charlie And The Chocolate Factory Review – New Wimbledon Theatre

Last Thursday we braved the sweltering heat to head to New Wimbledon Theatre where we had the pleasure of seeing Charlie and the Chocolate Factory – The Musical.

I’m sure many of you are familiar with the story of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl but if not it is about a young child who lives in poverty with their family who wishes to win one of Willy Wonka’s golden tickets to visit the Wonka Chocolate Factory. After gaining a golden ticket Charlie takes their grandad Joe along for the ride where all the winners can’t wait to feast on all the marvellous creations from Willy Wonka.

As the story progresses it is revealed all the winners aren’t what they seem and that Charlie Bucket is a special child. There are some surprises in store for Charlie and Grandad Joe along the way.

The show itself was absolutely amazing! The staging was incredible and the whole audience was in awe of every scene. I don’t want to give too much away as the show is definitely one to watch and I would highly recommend grabbing tickets while it is still on it’s run at New Wimbledon Theatre until the 1^st of July.

We were lucky enough to have Amelia Minto play Charlie at our visit and I have to say she is an absolute shining star, the songs and her performance absolutely swept me away – You could see her passion for the role which made watching the show even more enjoyable. Gareth Snook played Willy Wonka in a way that was magical as well as eccentric with Michael D’Cruze’s Grandpa Joe was fantastic, he really lived and breathed the character with the scenes between him and Amelia being really heart warming.

This show is one for all ages who will sit there mesmerised by the many showstopping moments!
