If you’re looking for a Christmas show that dares to take festive traditions, turn them on their glittery head, sprinkle them with chaotic filth, and ride them like seabiscuit then Séayoncé’s Perky Nativititties at The Yard Theatre is the gift you didn’t know you needed. This riotously funny, fabulously irreverent spectacle, led by the unparalleled Séayoncé (aka Dan Wye) and their murderous sidekick Leslie-Ann (Robyn Herfellow) is a campy, outrageous, and thoroughly unforgettable experience.

From the moment the curtain rises, Séayoncé’s charisma is undeniable. Dressed to kill (and possibly raise the dead), she commands the stage with sharp wit, jaw-dropping vocals, and a flair for the dramatic that keeps the audience hanging on every hilarious word. Her co-star, the hysterical Leslie-Ann, is a devilish delight, adding just the right amount of chaos and cynicism to the already absurd proceedings. 

The premise alone—a live TV Christmas special gone spectacularly off the rails—sets the tone for a night of unbridled hilarity. As Séayoncé wrestles with the literal Christmas spirit, the audience is treated to a whirlwind of bawdy carols, ghostly guest appearances, and cheeky games that toe the line between festive cheer and utter debauchery.  I was literally stitches the entire time at this chaotic comedic treasure. Highlights include (and trying not to give too many spoilers away) a few ‘Family Friendly moments’, a hilariously twisted meeting with Santa claus,  and several  interactive segments that had the entire room in stitches.

What truly sets this show apart is its clever commentary wrapped in glitter and tinsel. Beneath the raunchy humour and outrageous antics lies a subversive celebration of queer joy, community, and unapologetic self-expression. A queer person who LOATHES Christmas I truly found a sense of safety and community in this performance. The chemistry between Séayoncé and Leslie-Ann is electric, and their ability to keep the audience engaged (and laughing) from start to finish is nothing short of masterful. 

Perky Nativititties is not just a show—it’s an experience. Equal parts festive, filthy, and fabulous, it’s a perfect antidote to the cookie-cutter Christmas fare we’re so often subjected to. Go with an open mind, a sense of humour, and a love of all things camp, and you’ll leave with your sides aching and your bells well and truly jingled. A solid 5 stars!
