Zia Lucia Restaurant Review – Chelsea

ZIA LUCIA: GENUINE PIZZA IN THE HEART OF CHELSEA

Zia Lucia Pizza in Chelsea is an absolute haven for pizza lovers, offering not only delicious food but also an exceptional dining experience for friends, families and significant others. From the moment we walked in, the service was top notch. The staff were warm, attentive, and went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and let us sit anywhere of our choosing. They were particularly accommodating of my dietary needs, ensuring that my lactose intolerance didn’t prevent me from enjoying their delicious pizzas.

We started off our meal with two Bruschetta Rossas each. This was a light appetiser and the crisp toasted bread topped with fresh and juicy tomatoes and a drizzle of olive oil had me taking notes for my winter snacks. Simple yet satisfying, it truly emphasised the beauty of Italian cuisine and the balance between flavour and ingredients.

One of the standout features of Zia Lucia is their variety of doughs, which sets them apart from most pizza places in London. You can find the following doughs on offer:

  • Vegetable Charcoal: Evocative flavour, dramatic look, digestive gas-absorbing capacities
  • Wholemeal: Rich in fibres, strong fragrance, earthy taste
  • Without Gluten: Gluten-free flour. Crispy and delicate taste
  • Traditional: Traditional dough, unconventionally light

Choosing one of the doughs means your pizza is unique to you and if you feel like sharing you can always ask the person you’re dining with to order a different dough so you can experience both.

What we ordered:

  • Bruschetta Rossa
  • Arianna Sbagliata on vegetable charcoal dough
  • Vegan Margherita with parma ham on traditional dough
  • Hugo spritz cocktail
  • Glass of Sauvignon

I however opted for the traditional dough. When the pizza arrived, I was in awe (insert drool emoji) as I felt like I was dining in the streets of Naples and not Chelsea. Just look:

The ingredients are clearly of the highest quality—everything tasted incredibly fresh, from the tangy rich tomato sauce to the fresh parma ham. My pizza, despite being dairy-free (I opted for vegan cheese!), was bursting with flavour and didn’t feel like I was missing out at all. I usually steer away from vegan cheese as it tastes like rubber but the Zia Lucia vegan cheese tastes just like the real thing!

The menu extends beyond pizza, with a great selection of appetisers and salads, but what really surprised me were the cocktails. Our waitress recommended the ‘Hugo Spritz’ which is a sweeter alternative to the Aperol Spritz. It’s refreshing, light and had the perfect balance of elderflower, mint, and prosecco; the perfect tipple on one of the last days of summer. We ended up ordering three each and I now have a new favourite summer cocktail! When I go back, I will be working my way through the Zia Lucia cocktail menu.

We finished our meal with some delicious ice cream (I of course had sorbet), and we clinked glasses to summer ending. Overall, Zia Lucia Chelsea is an excellent choice for anyone looking for an authentic Italian pizza made with care, fresh ingredients, and dietary flexibility (great for vegans, veggies and those with intolerances). Whether you’re there for the food, the drinks, or the wonderful service, it’s a dining experience that won’t disappoint. Highly recommended!
