SUNDAY ROAST WITH A CARIBBEAN TWIST? SAY LESS

A sunny Sunday, a table full of food, and a roast with a twist? Yes please. The Hope in Richmond has teamed up with the Original Flava brothers to serve up a Sunday Jerk Roast. Think all the comfort of a classic roast, but with bold Jamaican flavours and a serious dose of personality. I tagged along as plus one to my friend Lucy, who’d been invited to check it out, and honestly? Zero regrets.

We went for the Jerk Chicken and Jerk Lamb, both marinated for 24 hours and smoked on the jerk pan. Both were packed with flavour, cooked beautifully, and came in generous portions. Honestly, for £20.50 to £24, its really good value, especially considering how much food you get. You can add extra meat for £7.50, but unless you’re absolutely ravenous or skipping sides, you probably won’t need it.

The lamb was juicy, full of flavour, and not overly spicy, which I preferred. If you’re spice sensitive, the lamb is a great shout, but if you like a bit of heat, the Jerk Chicken has more of that kick. You can also choose between Curry Goat, Roasted Salmon, and Jerk Cauliflower. It’s a fun twist on a traditional roast and a great way to switch things up.

Every Sunday Jerk Roast comes with a proper line-up: Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes, rice and peas, greens, carrots, and gravy. Yes, you read that right, rice and peas and roast potatoes. It sounds chaotic, but it works so well. I’m a gravy girl through and through, so I asked for extra (no shame), and it tied everything together. The rice soaking in that rich, savoury gravy? 10/10.

And don’t get me started on the sides. We ordered the Honey Mac & Cheese and honestly, I would go back just for that. Sweet, creamy, cheesy, unreal! The addition of honey may have changed my life, and I will be attempting it at home myself. We also tried the Fried Plantain, bit too soft for my taste, but Lucy enjoyed them.

The Hope in Richmond is a lovely pub. Really cosy with a relaxed vibe, and there’s a cute outdoor area. You can choose a table directly in the sun, or if you need a little shade there’s covered seating too. Ideal for soaking up the good weather without getting burnt. Your girl is ginger with Irish skin, she needs that cover!

Whether you’re a jerk lover or just roast curious, the Sunday Jerk Roast is one worth trying. Would I go back? Absolutely. Would I order the Honey Mac & Cheese again? Without a doubt. An absolute win for Sunday plans.
