Bottles Spitalfields – Wine Bar Review

The co-founders of Bottles & Bottles in Mercato Metropolitano have teamed up with pop-up restaurant SOOD Family to create Bottles in Spitalfields. Bringing a sense of Italy to the midst of London in a relaxing and chilled environment dedicated to the satisfaction of food and wine.
SOOD’s menu is a selection of small shareable dishes; from artisan Italian meats and cheeses to exciting twists on classic Italian dishes designed to complement their wines. The venue, by Spitalfields Market, has a very rustic feel but with a family around the dining table sense as well.
I was invited to try out the restaurant and I took my friend Ellie, who is vegetarian, as we were already going to see Everybody’s Talking About Jamie that night, so it fell perfectly for us. Both fans of Spitalfields Market we loved the location of the restaurant, which had a long communal table under low hanging aesthetically pleasing lights.
The walls are lined with carefully stocked wine crates holding the array of wines on the menu. Wine experts Fanco Macini and Daniele Marano, of Bottles and Bottles, created the refined drinks menu which focuses on wines by independent producers and small farms.
On first glance the dinner menu looks quite small but actually the dishes are extremely filling so there is no need for an extensive selection. I went for the Pecorino Rice Balls, £6, and Ellie went for Bruschella Burrata & Preserved Aubergine, £9.60, and the only issue we could find with the dishes was that Ellie’s took a lot longer to arrive, so we essentially had to watch each other eat as I didn’t want my dish to go cold whilst waiting.
For drinks we both opted for Prosecco, which I prefer more bubbles in opposed to Ellie preferring a drier taste. The manager came over to our table to run through the Prosecco selection, including where they were from and what flavour he thought we would prefer from our preferences. I went for Eco Artigianale Prosecco, £7 a glass, and Ellie had One & Only Prosecco Fantinel, £8 a glass.
Although the price tag is a little high, with dishes ranging from £6 and £15, the friendly atmosphere, helpful and welcoming staff and the extensive wine list this restaurant is definitely one to put on your food wishlist. Dinner with the family, a catch up with friends or even a quieter, more relaxed drink with a date, Bottles ticks all the boxes for all of these meet ups so grab your wine partner in crime and give Bottles a try.
