Attendees can expect conversations from the light-hearted to the poignant, encompassing coming out journeys, busting lesbian stereotypes and reflecting on the Lesbian Renaissance. We want to highlight the importance of sharing queer stories, and celebrating sapphic identities, fundraising for a charity that actively cements said stories and identities into the history books.
Dykonic Times is proudly sponsored by NYX Professional Makeup, a brand committed to inspiring the UK’s LGBTQIA+ to live Proudly Pro-You. NYX Professional Makeup is in proud partnership with UK Black Pride and Stonewall, who believe that no matter however you choose to live; whoever you choose to love, you should be able to live PROUDLY PRO-YOU.
SLT has always been committed to amplifying queer visibility through jewellery. The reaction we have had from people wearing our rings proudly, embracing their lesbian identities has been overwhelmingly positive. It feels only right to organise a talk like this, where sapphic stories are highlighted and we can come together as a community to raise money for such a worthy cause.
SLT Founder and panellist Amy speaks to the importance of this event: “From the public’s reaction to I Kissed a Girl alone, it is clear we as a community are thirsting for more representation, so putting this panel on felt like a way we could continue the conversation”
“When I made my first DYKE ring, it was all about celebrating something I’d once been so ashamed of, and basically to tell people not to be afraid of this slur-turned-badge of pride. The point of this talk is to raise our voices even louder, and to raise money for such a worthy cause!”
THIS TALK BRINGS TOGETHER FOUR INSTITUTIONS THAT ARE DEEPLY COMMITED TO AMPLIFYING AND PRESERVING QUEER STORES, EACH CONTRIBUTRING IN ITS OWN UNIQUE WAY:
- NYX Professional Makeup’s ‘Proudly Pro You’ campaign has been a strong supporter of community-building initiatives, making meaningful donations to causes that empower queer individuals.
- The Clapham Grand has established itself as a cornerstone of the LGBTQIA+ event scene, offering a vibrant space for queer expression.
- Queer Britain, as the first museum dedicated to telling the stories of queer communities, has played a vital role in raising awareness and fostering understanding of LGBTQIA+ history and culture.
- SLT has worked to amplify sapphic voices, seeking to destigmatize and uplift the queer community through campaigns focused on LGBTQIA+ trailblazers and building a charitable events programme to give back to our community.
Queer Britain Director Andrew Given: “Queer Britain Museum’s mission is to preserve, reclaim LGBTQ+ history and inspire others for the future. As a charity that receives no government funding, we are entirely reliant on the generosity of our supporters to ensure that we keep telling the unheard stories from across the entire spectrum of the LGBTQIA+ community. Our thanks to the team at SLT for supporting Queer Britain”
