Brother Marcus Victoria | First Look at the New East-Med Spot

EAST-MEDITERRANEAN INSPIRED FLAVOURS MEET COSY VICTORIA VIBES

Brother Marcus has officially opened in Victoria, and I was invited along for an early look at their newest space. This wasn’t a full sit-down meal moment; it was a launch party. Drinks flowing, canapés circulating, and a chance to explore the restaurant before it opens to the public. The kind of evening where you’re chatting, nibbling, and quietly planning a return visit before you’ve even left.

From the moment you walk in, the space really stands out. It’s calm, warm and welcoming without tipping into boring. Everything sits within soft, muted tones, but it feels intentional rather than playing it safe. There are pastel pink touches across the flooring and some of the tiling, paired with deep brown tables and countertops. The booth seating is a light beige, almost white, and seriously comfortable, while the wooden chairs bring in warmth and texture.

SOFT PINK FLOORS, WARM LIGHTING & A SPACE THAT JUST WORKS

The entrance is all floor-to-ceiling windows, so during the day the space must be flooded with natural light. In the evening, it still keeps that cosy feel thanks to woven basket-style lampshades and strings of bulbs dotted around. Add in little pockets of greenery and pebbled details, and it’s the kind of place that instantly makes you want to settle in. Very much a pop in for brunch, accidentally stay for hours situation.

During the launch, we were treated to a selection of drinks and East Mediterranean inspired canapés. I started, as always, with a glass of Prosecco. I did try the Greek Paloma too; made with Rooster Rojo Tequila, Roots Mastiha, grapefruit liqueur, pink peppercorn syrup and pink grapefruit soda. It wouldn’t my top drink of choice, but if you’re into those flavour profiles, you’d probably really enjoy it. Safe to say, I swiftly returned to the Prosecco… happily. There were also mocktails available, alongside wine and a small beer selection.

Food-wise, I’m still annoyed at myself for forgetting to photograph the canapé menu, so I can’t too exact on details. But what I can say with certainty is that everything was dangerously moreish. We started with cheeses, crackers and grapes, ideal mingling food, followed by warm, fluffy pittas that most of us went back for more than once. Possibly more than twice.

We also tried calamari and halloumi, both solid crowd-pleasers that went down well. But the standout of the evening for me was without a doubt the lamb kofta. Genuinely delicious and something I would go back for alone. If that’s any indication of what the full mezze menu has in store, it could be a very slippery slope in the best way. The staff deserve a mention too. Everyone was friendly, attentive and genuinely welcoming, even with a busy room and launch-night energy. It never felt rushed or chaotic, which says a lot.

A CONFIDENT NEW CHAPTER FOR BROTHER MARCUS

The opening of Brother Marcus in Victoria marks the beginning of the brand’s tenth anniversary year, and it feels fitting. There’s a quiet confidence here, a team that knows exactly who they are and what they do well. From relaxed brunches to mezze-style sharing plates and easy-going drinks, it feels like a natural next step.

I will definitely be revisiting properly now it’s open. Ideally, with a long brunch booking and very few plans afterwards. It’s the kind of place that could easily slip straight into your regular rotation, and sometimes that’s exactly what you want. If you are in the Victoria area and looking for somewhere inviting, sociable and easy to love, this one is well worth adding to your list.
