Amalfi Ristorante St Paul’s Opening Review | Italian Dining In London

THE OPENING NIGHT OF AMALFI ST PAUL’S WAS A CELEBRATION OF APEROL, PROSECCO, AND ITALIAN

Reviewers and influencers at the opening were treated with canapé sized portions of the main menu, alongside Dolce Vita Prosecco, an Aperol cart, Negronis, and plenty of other drinks if we asked the lovely bar staff nicely enough. For example, the smoked negroni was not officially on the tasting menu, but I would highly recommend it to Amalfi visitors. The strawberry basil negroni was also an absolute treat.

Given that the canapés were being passed around the restaurant, I did not get the chance to try everything. I tried and failed many times to get a piece of lobster, but I was always beaten to the tray by a more eager patron.

That said, I was fortunate enough to try most of the menu and there are some great items on it.

For starters, I really enjoyed the whipped feta and ricotta dip. It was a fresh and light dip served with a rosemary cracker, which pairs very well with the heavier parts of the menu. I also loved the ‘nduja spiced arrancini, which was perfectly crispy and cheesy. And, the oysters on the rocks were deliciously refreshing.

For mains, I particularly enjoyed the beef ravioli and the spinach ravioli. The beef ravioli was served with a truffle sauce which was warming and filling, much needed as the days get colder. And, the spinach ravioli was a great vegetarian option for a similar comforting winter dish. The other main dishes that we tried were several pizzas, which were perfectly tasty.

I also massively enjoyed the regular and the truffle fries. They were delightfully crispy, and would go down a treat with a family meal.

There were also plenty of desserts to go around. I really enjoyed the tiramisu and the cheesecake, and although I’m not normally a big fan of cannoli, their chocolate cannoli was scrumptious. The only dish I did not enjoy was the salted caramel pot which in my opinion was far too salty.

In all, I’d say Amalfi is a great option for people looking for quality Italian food and a great negroni selection around St. Pauls.
