A COMEDY SHOW WITH HEART, DEPTH, AND A WHOLE LOT OF FANNY CHAT

Lauren Pattison is back and blonder than ever! And she’s tackling her fears head on in Big Girl Pants, a show that mixes wicked humour and raw honesty. Lauren takes the audience on a rollercoaster ride through turning thirty and navigating life’s unexpected chaos. She brings her signature Northern charm, sharp wit, and yes, she will swear and say fanny a lot.

Warming up the crowd was Lee Peart, who had the audience laughing from the start. He set the tone for the night with his hilarious takes on personal trainers and unsolicited photos on dating apps. He prefers the term “penis portraits” to dick pics, and I’m here thinking why does that sound almost classy?! One highlight? His dream of being the next Anthony Hopkins being dashed when he got cast in The Crucible. Turns out playing a serious role is hard when everyone assumes it’s a comedy due to the camp priest.

Onto the main event, Lauren dived straight into the small anxieties that eat away at her. Like the time her friend got earrings on a third date and Lauren went home fuming that her boyfriend of three years had never bought her earrings… Only for him to remind her she doesn’t have her ears pierced. And then there’s the bigger anxieties. Like the time a stag do heckled everyone’s set and she decided to shut them down. The crowd loved it, the other acts were proud of her, but Lauren? She called her friend in tears, worried she’s ruined his stag do.

Lauren doesn’t hold back on oversharing, and one of the funniest moments was her colposcopy story. After testing positive for HPV three years in a row, she was understandably anxious. Her boyfriend, however, was way too exciting to be in the ‘fanny ward’ and could not stop cracking jokes. To the point where he almost laughed the speculum out her… twice! You can’t deny that this woman is the Queen of turning trauma into top-tier comedy.

The show takes a more serious turn in the final stretch. Lauren opens up about her best friend’s struggle with alcoholism. It’s an important topic, handled with care, and I do appreciate comedians using their platforms for real talk. However, the long gaps between laughs did make it feel less like a comedy set and more like a TED Talk.

I first saw Lauren in 2017 at The Comedy Store and was instantly drawn to her relatable, no-filter storytelling. My friend and I even jokingly threatened to kidnap her for a girl’s night out… She took it well! Fast forward to now, and she’s still serving up that unfiltered, down-to-earth humour, only now with added confidence and life experience. For the self-confessed anxious queen, who won’t even make eye contact with audience members from the fear, it’s amazing to see her journey.

Big Girl Pants is a brilliant mix of unfiltered comedy and candid storytelling. Lauren Pattison is bold, relatable, and effortlessly funny. Her ability to take life’s awkward moments and turn them into comedy gold is what makes her so compelling. While the final section leans heavier, the show as a whole is a fantastic night out. If you’re looking for a comic who isn’t afraid to overshare, roast herself, and swear a lot, Lauren Pattison is one to watch.
