MERRY CHRISTMAS, YA FILTHY ANIMAL!

It’s official, Christmas has arrived and Homo Alone is my top festive pick of the year! This fabulously naughty parody takes the beloved holiday classic Home Alone and turns the camp dial up to eleven. Currently showing at The Other Palace Studio, you might be concerned that the small stage might hold them back. But this is a true show of a creative team making magic happen, proving you don’t need a big budget spectacle to bring Christmas cheer.
Leading the cast was Elliott Evans as Kevin McCallister (yes, it’s addressed that he’s a 6 foot something 8-year-old, hilarious). He brought all the cheeky charm you’d expect in this role, but this show was a real team effort. Every actor put their own fabulous spin on their dual roles. Jack North as Peter and Marv brought charm and comedic timing, and Allie Dart had me cackling in her roles of Kate and Harry. Her over the top accent as Kate was a gamble that totally paid off.
But the standout for me was Steph Asamoah, delivering some of the most unexpected and laugh out loud moments. Let’s just say if you’re a fan of a certain Canadian diva, you’re in for a treat. Every time Steph took centre stage, she brought the house down! I couldn’t get enough, and her musical moments left me wanting more. I would 100% see her in concert… just putting that out there!
Speaking of music, the songs were fantastic. Classic Christmas hits reimagined with parody lyrics had the whole audience in stitches. Add in some clever choreography and powerhouse vocals from the entire cast, and you’ve got a festive treat that’s impossible not to love. There were a few fluff moments, but the cast styled it out so well you couldn’t help but laugh.
If you’re looking for a Christmas show that’s cheeky, chaotic, and camp as tinsel on a drag queen’s tree, Homo Alone is the one to see. Grab a ticket before 5 January, and give yourself an evening of festive fun.
