Bellefields Brixton Mediterranean Restaurant Dining Review
Bellefields Brixton is a family-run restaurant that spills out onto the heated, cobblestoned courtyard of The Department Store. Their seasonal menu is inspired by the seas of the Mediterranean, from the Aegean and Balearic to the Levantine basin. In September they welcomed a new executive chef, Luis Telo, who has launched a brand Autumn menu. Heavily influenced by Italian, Spanish, and French recipes, I was invited down to try out the new menu.
The new menu is an all-day a la carte menu offering sustainably sourced ingredients made in-house. The bar menu also has a focus on sustainable ingredients, for example the banana rum from DISCARDED spirits, a rum made from left over banana peel. We opted to start with a Prosecco and Margarita whilst we took in the surroundings. The restaurant interiors feature natural materials of textured brick and exposed timber, with accent colours inspired by the seasons. There is a real cosy, homely atmosphere and feel to Bellefields Brixton.
The menu is broken down into Bites, Plates, and Extras, with certain plates available as both small and large portions. We started with Bresaola, lean dried salted beef, and Focaccia, from the Bites menu. We asked for olive oil and balsamic to dip the focaccia in and both dishes were delicious and moreish. Following this I went for the Pork Souvlaki with Tzatziki and Pickles, whilst Lizet chose the Burrata and Caprese Salad. There were both starter sized plates, but I would point out the souvlaki comes with more bread so is very filling.
We struggled to select our main courses as there were so many delicious options to choose from. We decided to get the Ricotta & Black Truffle Tortellini, Shaved Tortellini and Taleggio Stuffed Gnocchi, Cherry Tomatoes, Garlic, Parmesan. It turned out we were both stuck between these two dishes so decided to share them. My favourite ended up being the Ricotta Tortellini whilst Lizet preferred the Taleggio Stuffed Gnocchi, so it worked out well. Every dish was scrumptious but if you had to try just one, I’d highly recommend trying the Ricotta Tortellini.
Following our mains, they gave us the dessert menu, but I barely had any space left. I decided to cop out and just get a single scoop of vanilla ice cream. Lizet went for the Crème Brulé and said that it was really good. I was so full after the meal that all I wanted to do was get home and succumb to my food coma! The dishes are all reasonably priced with the lowest mains ranging from £15 to £27. With the £27 dish being Entrecote De Boeuf which you would expect to be a bit more on the pricey side anyway.
The staff in the restaurant looked after us and all the other customers so well! They were extremely friendly, very attentive with guests, and you could just tell they were so proud of their venue. With a cosy atmosphere, welcoming staff, and delicious food, I would highly recommend trying out Bellefields Brixton. I’m already looking forward to my trip when I try out some other items from the menu!
