WOULD YOU BELIEVE I’D NEVER BEEN TO A MAGIC SHOW BEFORE ATTENDING LONDON’S NEW MAGICAL DESTINATION WONDERVILLE

I’ve always been a complete sceptic when it comes to things like magic and mindreading. I was convinced I’d be able to see through tricks or that the audience members are in on it. Well turns out I have well and truly been converted and would highly recommend getting yourself down to Wonderville.

Just two minutes from Piccadilly Circus is the new purpose-built intimate cabaret table seated venue. Open as a café and bar from noon to midnight meet some friends for drinks and nibbles. Before the mystery and enchantment begins with performances at 8pm Tuesday to Sunday, and weekend matinees at 3pm. Each show will see a rotating roster of fabulous hosts and acts who will entertain, delight, and amaze.

On the night our fabulous comperes were Chastity Belt and Desmond O’Connor. Chastity blends comedy and songs with high energy and glamour as she introduces the acts and entertains the audience. Desmond O’Connor is an internationally renowned and award-winning composer, lyricist, and performer. They had such great chemistry on stage that at times it felt like they were the main acts on the night. They kept the audience’s energy levels high with their flirty, animated banter and wild sense of humours.

The acts on the night were a mix of circus, cabaret and magic acts showcasing a variety of skills. Cabaret and circus acts including sword swallower Snookie Mono and “hair hanger” Tara Talland. She was literally suspended from the ceiling by her hair which was both insane and amazing to watch. Amazi showcased her hula skills, as did Abi Collins in the role of man-eating lush Ritzi Crackers. She had the audience in hysterics and in fear as she scanned the men in search of an assistant.

The magicians on the night were Billy Kidd, Marc Oberon, Matricks Illusion, and Fay Presto. Marc Oberon was quite the standout for me with his incredible ‘mind reading’ tricks. I was one of the audience members who he got involved and he literally astounded me! Matricks Illusion’s act included levitation, people appearing and disappearing, and for want of a better word it was magical.

As a magical novice and self-confessed sceptic, I would happily admit that Wonderville converted me. The show was well put together and I liked that the short acts gave you a glimpse at a range of talent. The layout of the venue allows for an intimate and interactive performance. The audience seemed to really enjoy themselves and I would highly recommend booking yourself in for a show.
