The Witches Of Oz Review – The Vaults

Citizens of the Emerald City, your presence is requested at The Wonderful Feast of Oz. Following a great run with Mulan Rouge at The Vaults, ShayShay has made a return with The Witches Of Oz. A brand-new immersive experience which combines comedy, cabaret, dining, and a sprinkle of political rivalry. Get ready to be plunged into the iconic world of witches, rainbows, and magical slippers, with an explicitly queer revamp.

I’ve always loved The Vaults as a venue for immersive events as the space allows set designers to really go for it. And The Witches Of Oz was no exception with an Emerald City takeover that took us over the rainbow and beyond the binary. Alex Clow created a visual feast for the eyes including stunning costumes, giving me all the drag superstar vibes.

It’s been years since Dorothy has been in Oz, clicking her ruby red slippers and going home to Kansas. The Good Witch and The Wicked Witch, back from the dead, are competing to be the next Witch of Oz. But the blizzard of Oz has other ideas blowing Dorothy back to Oz. All grown up, our heroine is now non-binary and goes by Dorothey. It’s time for Dorothey to get the team back together to take on The Wicked Witch and save the Emerald City.

It’s not just Dorothey who has evolved and discovered their true selves in the past twenty year. Scarecrow is now a science buff and Lion is a feisty dominatrix into BDSM. And Tin has dropped the second part of their name as they don’t identify as a man. The entire cast of the show have great chemistry, play well off each other, and command the stage during the performance.

You have the option to purchase general admission tickets or a dining ticket which includes a four-course meal. Starting with a Broccolollipop, you are then served sweetcorn in garlic puree with blowtorched corn and cornbread. For the main you can have either chicken crown or seasonally spiced pumpkin with vegetable medley, seasonal greens, and salad. And rounding off the dinner is Emerald Delight, candied apple pie with popcorn crumb and rainbow Chantilly cream.

The Witches Of Oz is a feel-good evening that will leaving you laughing and with a smile on your face. It’s a joyful night out that celebrates inclusivity and owning who you are and celebrating it.  So, don your green-est glam, follow the yellow brick road, and immerse yourself in the Emerald City. I can guarantee you won’t be wanting to click your heels three times to go home.
