SABRAGE AT LAFAYETTE: CHAOTIC, CAMP, AND COMPLETELY UNMISSABLE

Where to begin with Sabrage? If you’re offended by nudity, swearing, drinking, sex appeal, or general chaos, this show isn’t for you. Luckily for me, I am very much here for all of the above… and then some.

Sabrage is unlike anything else I’ve seen in London. It’s theatre meets circus meets cabaret meets acrobatics meets dance meets humour meets camp fun… with a side of utter mayhem. One minute you’re watching elite acrobatics, the next you’re laughing at cheeky audience interaction, and then suddenly there’s a pillow fight exploding in front of you. Honestly, “expect the unexpected” is the only way to describe it.

NO SEAT IS SAFE… AND THAT’S HALF THE FUN

The cast are highly interactive with the audience, so if you’re on the aisle or right at the front, just know you’re fair game. We sat in the table stalls, Row D, which I’d recommend. You’re close enough to soak up the energy, but not so close you’re constantly on edge waiting to be pulled in. Though truthfully, we wouldn’t have minded!

There are a couple of moments worth a heads-up! One involves grapes in a way you probably won’t see coming. And another sees the lights flash around to spotlight different performers so you’ll be swivelling your head to keep up. But honestly, that unpredictability is part of the fun. Sabrage doesn’t want you to sit back politely; it wants you wide-eyed, laughing, and never quite sure what’s about to happen next.

ELITE SKILL MEETS OUTRAGEOUS FUN

What really impressed me was the skill level. The acrobatics are world-class, the dancing is sharp and sexy, the singing is powerful, and the comedic timing is spot-on. The whole thing balances outrageous camp with genuine talent, and that’s no easy feat.

Sabrage isn’t polished in the traditional theatre sense, and it doesn’t want to be. It’s raw, raucous, and proudly chaotic, and that’s exactly the point. If you want safe, predictable theatre, you won’t find it here. But if you’re after something bold, bawdy, and brilliantly bonkers, with champagne fizzing through its veins, Sabrage at Lafayette is the night out you’ve been waiting for.
