OSLO Restaurant Review
OSLO
A review by Hannah Dolan
Located just outside Hackney Central station – OSLO is a live music and food venue serving up a range of European dishes.
We were invited along to try their new menu which was filled with salads, fresh fish of the day and their much loved classic Oslo burger, plus wings with homemade asian hot sauce.
With live music venues, you never really know what to expect in terms of food. And more often than not you have to make do with some greasy chips or a hotdog that looks like it’s already been digested. But not here.
OSLO has a nordic feel to it with long wooden tables and comfy chairs, making for an extremely social eating space. The drinks menu is huge and it’s almost impossible to choose just one! Plus if you like your beer you’ll be totally spoilt for choice.
Small Plates
I was just glad there was two of us so we could try a range of dishes to be totally honest. Dem went for the chicken wings with homemade hot sauce and I opted for the salt and pepper squid with harissa mayonnaise. Both delicious and really sizeable portions – you could definitely order a selection of smaller plates to share before a gig and it would be the perfect amount of food.
For Mains
I scooped the last black bream, sauteed new potatoes with spinach and kale pesto which was absolutely delicious. I’d never tried spinach and kale pesto but what a combo! Dem opted for the infamous Oslo burger which was a beast, but he managed to finish it by some sort of miracle! By the end of mains we were defeated so couldn’t try the dessert menu, but we did hear appreciative noises coming from the table beside us who had tried the lemon and lime posset with popping candy.
In Summary
I’d definitely return – the portion sizes were huge and the venue had a really nice vibe to it. They also have a happy hour from 5pm-7pm offering lager, cider and wine from £3, and if that’s not a reason to return for after work drinks I don’t know what is!
