Before going to Mundo Pixar Experience, I thought I knew what was in store. Life-size film sets. A bit of nostalgia. Some cute photo opportunities. A fun walk through some iconic Pixar worlds and reliving the classic films. What I didn’t expect was to be fully immersed like I was in each movie. And fully embracing my inner child like she had just been let loose in her dream playground.
I attended the launch event on Thursday, the night before it officially opened on 13 February. From the second I arrived; the atmosphere was everything. There was a mix of adults and children, and you could tell everyone was excited to step inside the experience. Pixar has that rare magic where it genuinely works for all ages, and this experience really leans into that. Whether you grew up on these films or are introducing them to little ones now, it hits all the nostalgic notes without feeling childish.
LIFE-SIZE SETS, BIG DETAILS AND THAT IMMERSIVE PIXAR FEELING
During the experience, you will make your way through multiple rooms transformed into life-size sets. Every single space has been created with so much attention to detail. This isn’t a case of standing in front of a themed backdrop, it genuinely feels like you are stepping inside the movies. The details, the scale, the props, the lighting, the music… you can see how much care has gone into it all.
My favourite room was hands down the Coco talent competition. Bright orange marigold petals floated across the floor, building up in waves. And with Poco Loco playing in the background, I was in my element. Singing, dancing, spinning around, posing by the streetlamp like I was in the Land of the Dead itself. One guy walked in mid-performance on his phone… somewhere out there is probably a video of me belting it out like I was auditioning for the sequel. You’re welcome, internet.
My friend, meanwhile, was buzzing about the Cars diner and garage room because that’s her favourite Pixar film. And I had to break it to her that I’ve… never actually seen it. Awkward! Personally, I can never pick just one favourite, but for a top three I’d go for Coco, Brave, and The Incredibles 2. Sadly, only Coco made the cut with the rooms. Would I have loved an Edna Mode workshop or a mystical forest moment with Merida? Obviously. Do I understand they can’t recreate every Pixar film ever made (even though I desperately want them to)? Also, yes.
SO MANY PHOTO OPPORTUNITIES YOU’LL STRUGGLE TO PUT YOUR PHONE DOWN
Every room is filled with photo opportunities, so if Instagram memories are your thing, you’ll be spoilt for choice. Or even just adding new photos to add to the family album. We asked some of the staff to take photos of us together, and some offered before we even had to ask. We chatted with them about favourite rooms and moments, and it really added to the feel-good energy of the evening.
There’s also a fun little treasure hunt with the Pixar Ball. You know the iconic yellow ball with a blue band and red star? Yes, that one! There’s one hidden in each room which adds a fun little challenge to the experience. If you can tear yourself away from the photo opps and magic, that is. We only found four, and one was taller than me, but… still counts right?
Once you reach the end, there’s a gift shop bursting with so cute items from the Pixar universe. Plushies, water bottles, clothing, keyrings, backpacks, and of course the Pixar Ball itself. Dangerous for the wallet, but great for souvenirs and building your own Pixar collection at home. Very hard to resist!
WHERE ACCESSIBILITY IS CLEARLY A REAL PRIORITY
Accessibility Is a huge priority at the Mundo Pixar Experience, which is always great to see. It has been designed with everyone in mind, making sure that both deaf and visually impaired guests can fully enjoy it. With sensory considerations, audio guides, and English Sign Language videos via QR codes, it never feels like accessibility was an afterthought.
Step into Sunnyside Daycare, check the screams are stored in Monsters Inc., or jump on the vespa with Luca and Alberto. There’s so much to enjoy and experience at this joyful, immersive, colourful, and downright magical experience. Whether you’re reliving childhood classics, taking the kids on a weekend adventure, or just letting your inner Pixar fan go wild, Mundo Pixar Experience absolutely delivers.
Would I go again? In a heartbeat.
Would I behave any less dramatically in the Coco room next time? Absolutely not.
