This coming June, Cirque du Soleil will be bringing their arena production TORUK – The First Flight for the first time to the UK. Inspired by the record-breaking film AVATAR and created in conjunction with James Cameron, the show will be first performing at the Manchester Arena from 20-23 June before coming to London’s O2 Arena from 26-30 June.

When a natural catastrophe threatens to destroy the sacred Tree of Souls, Ralu and Entu, two Omatikaya boys on the brink of adulthood, fearlessly decide to take matters into their own hands. Upon learning that Toruk can help them save the Tree of Souls, they set out, together with their newfound friend Tsyal, on a quest high up in the Floating Mountains to find the mighty red and orange predator that rules the Pandoran sky. Prophecy is fulfilled when a pure soul rises among the clans to ride Toruk for the first time and save the Na’vi from a terrible fate.

This is Cirque’s first production developed alongside a film franchise. By combining the company’s signature performance style and collaborating with one of the most esteemed film directors in the world, this is Cirque creating a show driven by a strong narrative and allowing audiences to immerse themselves in this brand new story in the visually stunning live setting of Pandora.

The UK cast members range from acrobats to puppeteers to the head of sound of the production. Some random fun facts to big up to:

43 artists in the cast – ranging from actors and singers to boomerang specialists and puppeteers, plus of course the acrobats
115 full costumes are worn in every show, with well over 1000 items including shoes, headpieces and necklaces
14 puppets used in the production – the largest collection of puppetry in Cirque du Soleil history
112 people representing 25 different nationalities are on tour full time

Narrated by a “Na’vi Storyteller” and populated by unforgettable characters, TORUK – The First Flight is a mythical tale set thousands of years before the events depicted in the film AVATAR, and before any humans ever set foot on Pandora.
