A NEW ASIAN STREET FOOD INSPIRED POP-UP HEADS TO ISLINGTON WITH A NEW BAO-UNDLESS BUN BRUNCH

On Saturday 13th May 2023, a brand-new pop-up, Katsu & Buns will be launching at The Chapel Bar Terrace in the heart of Islington. The exciting new concept will feature twists on Asian street food favourites, as well as a ‘bao-undless’ buns and bottomless booze brunch offering.

Deeply passionate about Asian cuisine, Katsu & Buns founder Shaun Smith launched the concept at the end of 2022, with the aim of combining Japanese classics and best-loved street food, to bring an authentic and fun dining concept to the London foodie scene. Small plates will sit alongside a selection of pillowy bao buns, juicy burgers and lip-smacking rice dishes. Examples from the menu include:

• Karage (Japanese fried) Chicken | Marinated and fried crispy chicken, lime, miso mayo dip – £8.50
• Pumpkin Korokke (VG)| Crispy panko coated pumpkin, tonkatsu dip, green garnish – £7.50
• Ebi Katsu | Lightly coated king prawns, sweet chili mayo – £8.50
• Miso and Truffle Burger (VG) | Juicy plant-based patty, toasted brioche, mature cheddar, mixed leaf salad, crispy onions, miso truffle mayo – £14.90
• K&B Katsu Curry | Carrot, spring onion, pickles, steamed white rice, Katsu curry sauce | Chicken £12.5 | Tiger Prawn £14 | Pumpkin £12
• Pan Seared Sea Bream | Sea bream filets, stir fried mixed vegetables, steamed white rice, Thai basil, Chilli K&B sauce – £15

Every Saturday from 11.30am-7pm, diners can enjoy an array of ‘bao-untiful’ bao buns. From Korean pork, Peking duck and pumpkin katsu baos to shiitake mushroom teriyaki and chicken katsu and satay buns. Brunchers can also opt for free-flowing Prosecco or a choice of some skilfully crafted Japanese cocktails. Examples include:

The Chapel Bar, an events space near Angel station, is the location for this exciting pop up. A large open plan space on the first floor, featuring a fully stocked bar leads out onto a delightful sundrenched Katsu & Buns terrace. Nestled amongst surrounding hedges, this is a stunning spot to soak up the rays with friends and family throughout the day.

Ideal for after work drinks, boozy brunches or date nights, the venue also lends itself perfectly for events and private parties.
