On Saturday 13th January 2018, Arabica Bar & Kitchen, one of Borough Market’s most exciting venues, will be hosting not one, but two Syrian inspired cookery classes in support of #CookForSyria.
Priced at £115 pounds per person, Arabica Bar & Kitchen will donate £10 per ticket sold to the global fundraising initiative curated by Clerkenwell Boy EC1 and SUITCASE Magazine in partnership with Unicef NEXTGeneration London in a bid to help support families impacted by the ongoing crisis.
Hosted by James Walters and Executive Chef, David Jones, the morning cookery class will begin with a welcome Man’ousheh and Turkish coffee at Arabica Bar & Kitchen. Next the class will take a whistle stop tour of Borough Market where David will pick up some seasonal produce from a handful of his favourite stalls to be incorporated into the cooking session. The cookery class, led by David, will follow at The Cookhouse, overlooking a buzzing Borough Market.
The afternoon class will take a very similar format, omitting the visit to Arabica Bar and Kitchen and the tour of the market. Instead, students will be welcomed at The Cookhouse with a hot glass of mint tea and a plate of delicious baklava.
Walters and Jones have carefully developed their classes to incorporate the basics as well as the culinary secrets of this exciting cuisine. Each intimate cookery class allows them to share their passion for Middle Eastern flavours and urban food foraging with those keen to learn.
Students can expect to produce an array of seasonal, Syrian inspired meze dishes, made using some of Arabica’s finest larder essentials including tahini, sumac, roasted cumin and za’atar. The day concludes with an informal meal, enjoying the food cooked paired with wine and baklawa pastries.
